Open Water Swimming Career
- he competed in the first annual 2.5 km Shell Festival Sea Swim, a 2.5 km swim through Boneyards at Jeffreys Bay in the Eastern Province of South Africa.
- he swam in the 8 km Nelson Mandela Bay Bell Buoy Challengein Port Elizabeth.
- he competed in the 5 km Sabrina Love Swim in Plettenberg Bay.
- he completed the Shipwreck swim in Cape Town in 11 degree C water, without a wetsuit.
- he completed the 4 km Jeffreys Bay Swim Challenge in 2012.
- he finished third in both the 5 km event at the 2012 Steers Marina Mile.
- he finished third in the 7.5 km inaugural JBay Cold Water Swim Classic in Marina Martinique on the Eastern Cape.
- he represented Eastern Province in the 3 km event at the 2012 South African Open Water Swim Championships.
- he has completed all 6 editions of the first 6 Jendamark Bellbuoy Challenge 5 km sea swim events.
Legend of Bell Buoy
Jute and Ralph West are amongst the small crew of swimmers known as the Legends of the Bell Buoy for having completed all six of the Bell Buoy Challenge swims in South Africa.

Cape Recife Swim
Jute completed an 11 km rounding of Cape Recife, the southeastern tip of the African continent on 28 February 2015 in 3 hours 34 minutes together with PJ Duffy (3 hours 17 minutes), Rudi Schoeman (3 hours 18 minutes), Iain Geddes (3 hours 21 minutes), Kevin Grey (3 hours 23 minutes), Brenton Williams (3 hours 33 minutes), and Ralph West (3 hours 34 minutes). The swim was escort paddled by Terry Olivier and sanctioned by the Cape Long Distance Swimming Association.
