Cole Gindhart

Cole Gindhart is a 23-year-old ETA Coach athlete and undergraduate student studying electrical engineering at Drexel University.

Athletic Career

Cole began swimming at age 5 years and has continued to compete every year since. For Cole, swimming is not just a sport, but a way of life. He believes that swimming is not something that comes easily to people; rather, it requires a lot of dedication and hard work to essentially reprogram your body and learn to move smoothly and efficiently through water. Once you have mastered swimming, the freedom you have in the water is a truly wonderful feeling. Despite starting the sport at such an early age, Cole did not become a strong competitive swimmer until high school.

At Randolph High School in University City, Texas, Cole was a member of the track team for 2 years, a member of the swim team for 4 years, and the captain of the swim team for 3 years. Cole was a repeat district and regional champion, a member of all-state and all-area teams, a state finalist in the 200 IM and 100 fly, and served as captain of the South Texas team at Southern Zones Championships in 2008. Cole has competed for the Division 1 Drexel Varsity Swim Team for 3 years where he specializes in the 200 and 400 IM, and the distance freestyle events. He was a conference finalist in the 400 IM in 2010 and was named an Academic All-Area Swimmer in 2011.

Cole began competing in triathlons in the summer of 2012 and has already fallen in love with the sport. He has completed four Olympic distance triathlons and intends to continue competing as a member of the Drexel Triathlon Club during the next few years.

Open Water Swimming Career Highlights

  • On 12 July 2015, he completed the 16.1 km Kingdom Swim in Lake Memphremagog, Vermont in 4 hours 25 minutes 17 seconds at the age of 22.
  • Cole won the 2015 S.C.A.R. Swim Challenge in Arizona between 6-9 May 2015 completing the 4-day, 4-stage event in a cumulative time of 16 hours 13 minutes 14.8 seconds.
    • On 6 May 2015, he finished second in the 13.3 km crossing of Saguaro Lake in Arizona in 3 hours 17 minutes 13 seconds on 6 May 2015.
    • On 7 May 2015, he won the 14.1 km crossing of Canyon Lake in Arizona in 3 hours 3 minutes 14 seconds.
    • On 8 May 2015, he completed a 22.8 km crossing of Apache Lake in Arizona in 7 hours 5 minutes 1 second.
    • On 9 May 2015, he completed a 9 km crossing of Roosevelt Lake in Arizona in 2 hours 47 minutes 45 seconds.
