Viking Endurance Swim
From Openwaterpedia
The Viking Endurance Swim was a 3.9-mile swim in Lake Superior from Park Point to the bridge in Duluth, Minnesota held on 14 August 1960. The event included by two high school students Dewey Million and Dennis Million, twin brothers who were blind and renowned for their athletic prowess. The 1960 race started with about 70 swimmers but only 30-40 finished due to hypothermia. The race was only held once.
The Great Lake Superior Swim now follows this same course and runs in August every year.
