Gary Crum
Gary Crum was a lifeguard with the Los Angeles County Lifeguards including 17 years as the Section Chief in charge of the South Bay beaches (Redondo Beach, Hermosa Beach and Manhattan Beach). After his retirement in 2001, Crum became Chairman of the International Surf Festival for 10 years.
In 2010, he became the Coordinator of the Dwight Crum Pier-to-Pier Swim.
Dwight Crum Pier-to-Pier Swim
The Dwight Crum Pier-to-Pier Swim (also known as the Manhattan Beach Swim) is a memorial swim that is part of Manhattan Beach's annual International Surf Festival. It is one of America's Top 100 Open Water Swims and named after Gary Crum's father, Dwight Crum. It is a 2-mile point-to-point ocean swim in Los Angeles, California. The most popular open water swim in Southern California, it starts on the south side of Hermosa Beach Pier and finishes on the north side of the Manhattan Beach Pier.
