(Redirected from Fehmarnbelt)
noun - The Fehmarn Belt (Danish: Femern Bælt, German: Fehmarnbelt) is a strait connecting the Bay of Kiel and the Bay of Mecklenburg in the western part of the Baltic Sea between the German island of Fehmarn and the Danish island of Lolland. Ferries operated by Scandlines connect Puttgarden and Rødby on the two islands, while swimmers challenge themselves to the Beltquerung or the Crossing of the Strait. The strait is 18 kilometers wide with depths between 20–30 meters. Currents in the strait are mostly dependent on wind.
The record of 4 hours 53 minutes is currently held by Bruno Baumgartner who set it in October 2012.
