Claudia Rose, Cold-water Adventure Swimmer

Claudia Rose is an American adventure swimmer and extreme swimmer from San Diego, California who specializes in cold-water swims. She founded the Sitka Sound Adventure Swim in Sitka Sound, Alaska and was the first person to swim across the Sitka Sound in 2009. Rose was also the first person to traverse from Kruzof Island to Halibut Point in 54˚F (12.2˚C) waters and a lifetime member of the Catalina Channel Swimming Federation. She has completed two of the Southern California Eight and will participate in the Cape Circumnavigation Challenge marathon swim around Cape May, New Jersey.

Motto

Open Water Swimming Races

Sitka Sound Adventure Swim Details

A solo or relay 10K (6.2 miles) and 5K (3.1 miles) adventure swim in Sitka Sound with a water temperature range in the mid 50’s. The race will start at the Halibut Point Recreation Area (South Beach) and there will be at buoy at the the 3.1 (5K) mile mark (at the Sitka Sportsman's Club/No Name Creek area). The 10K course returns to the start area. Maximum time allowed on the course is 4 hours.

The event is open to swimmers 18 years old and older. The age of the swimmer will be determined by the age of the swimmer on race date.

Santa Cruz CIrcumnavigation Swim

She was part of the Selkie & the Sirens relay that completed the first circumnavigation swim around Santa Cruz Island on 27 September 2017 on 39 hours 58 minutes 12 seconds. The swimmers included Louise Darlington, Michelle Premeaux McConica, Carol-lynn Swol, Diana Corbin and Jeannie Zappe.

Bering Strait Swim

Rose was a member of the successful, unprecedented, 5-day Bering Strait Swim relay, a 53-mile (86 km) relay crossing from Cape Dezhnev in Chukotka, Russia, to Cape Prince of Wales in the state of Alaska, USA.
