Because Girls Can is an open water swimming relay team that will attempt to swim 305 km across the length of Lake Ontario. The team consists of 61-year-old Colleen Shields, 48-year-old Nicole Mallette, 23-year-old Samantha Whiteside, 18-year-old Rebekah Boscariol, and 18-year-old Mona Al Sharari starting on 23 July 2013. They will swim in 2-hour legs throughout the expected 5-day non-stop unprecedented relay.
Because Girls Can's relay is a charity event for Because I am a Girl, a charity that works to end gender inequality, promote girls’ rights and lift millions of girls – and everyone around them – out of poverty.
