Alfie Calpito completed a solo crossing of the Maui Channel (or the Auau Channel) between the islands of Lānaʻi and Maui in the state of Hawaii
Alfredo B. Calpito Jr. (died 31 July 2021 at the age of 62) was a competitive pool and open water swimmer and Ironman triathlete from the Philippines who lived in San Antonio, Texas and Honolulu, Hawaii.
Swimming Highlights
- In 1989, he was the 54th person in history to complete a crossing of the Maui Channel (or the Auau Channel) between Lānaʻi and Maui.
- He competed in the annual Waikiki Roughwater Swim and the North Shore Swim Series.
- He completed the 1991 Ironman Triathlon World Championships in Kona, Hawaii in 11 hours 6 minutes 28 seconds.
