Sutro Baths

From Openwaterpedia

Sutra Baths was a privately owned, publicly renowned swimming, ice skating and museum complex opened in 1896 and named after Adoulf Sutro, the 24th mayor of San Francisco, California who was an eccentric and talented entrepreneur and visionary. It was located at the north end of Ocean Beach near the Seal Rocks.

It offered 7 swimming pools of different sizes filled with sea water heated to varying temperatures. One could enter the pools by way of slide, swings, diving boards, trampolines, or even trapeze. It also had a stage and seating for thousands to observe events. All of this was set under 10,000 panes of glazed glass in the roof. Sutro Baths closed in 1966. It burned to the ground shortly after in a what some would call a questionable fire. All that remains to this day is the foundation.

It included The Seven Pools, Sutro Railway, Merrie Way, Sutro's Cliff House, Ice Skating Rink, Egyptian Mummy Museum, Tom Thumb Exhibit, Musee Mecanique, Torture Museum, Lord's Last Supper, Ito, Giggling Ghost, and more.
