Toroneos Gulf Marathon 26 km course in northern Greece

Kallithea (Halkidiki) is a busy resort in Greece that draws summer crowds to its pine-fringed beaches and waterfront parks. Open-air bars serve fresh seafood and lively dance clubs fill up after dark. Ancient ruins nearby include the remains of a Doric temple to Egyptian god Ammon Zeus, and the 19th-century chapel to St. Panteleimon, which has colorful mosaics. Specialty stores sell handmade sandals and local honey.

Open Water Swimming[edit]

The International Swimming Marathon of Toroneos Gulf (or the ΔΙΕΘΝΗΣ ΚΟΛΥΜΒΗΤΙΚΟΣ ΔΙΑΠΛΟΥΣ ΤΟΡΩΝΑΙΟΥ ΚΟΛΠΟΥ or International Swimming Across of Toroneos Gulf or Toroneos Gulf Crossing) has been held from Kallithea to Nikiti, Greece since 1971. Also called the Toroneos Gulf Swim, it is 24.5 km marathon swim from Kalithea, Kassandra to Nikiti, Sithonia in Halkidiki. It is one of the World's Top 100 Open Water Swims.
