The Gulf of Aqaba (Arabic: خَلِيجُ ٱلْعَقَبَةِ) or Gulf of Eilat (Hebrew: מפרץ אילת) or the Gulf of Eilat is a large gulf at the northern tip of the Red Sea, east of the Sinai Peninsula and west of the Arabian mainland. Its coastline is divided between four countries: Egypt, Israel, Jordan, and Saudi Arabia.

Open Water Swimming

The Gulf of Eilat is site of the LEN Open Water Cup and a FINA 10K Marathon Swimming World Cup competition.
The Gulf of Eilat is the site of the International Red Sea SwimCup, a 500m, 1.5 km, 4.5 km, 7.5 km open water swim held on 26 January 2019.
Omar El Galla of Egypt swam 220 km along the length of the Gulf of Aqaba along the Sinai Peninsula in an assisted stage swim from the north at Taba to the south at Ras Mohamed in 2019 in 34 days (with 26 swimming days and 8 days off due to the logistical challenges and preparations needed to pass some areas. He was supported by Nabil Rostom in December 2019.
Lynne Cox completed a 15-mile 2-day stage swim from Egypt to Israel, from Israel to Jordan in late October 1994.
