Introduction

Founder

Fresh from qualifying for the London 2012 Olympics in the 10 km open water swim, Iron-man champion and BodyScience Great Australia Swim Series founder, Ky Hurst, couldn’t contain his pride at adding the Whitehaven Beach swim to this season’s programme.

It’s great to be back and great to have added a new swim to our series. Our goal has always been to have swims at great locations so to be able to add Whitehaven to the list is just fantastic and a measure of the success of last year’s series.”

Despite some of Australia’s best swimmers lining up to compete in 2010-11, Hurst is adamant the ethos of participation will remain in 2011-12 with specific events for juniors and recreational swimmers. “I think why last season was so great was the mix of competitors. We had over 1,400 entries from 7 year old kids to 70 year old veterans, as well as the cream of Australian swimming talent. It was wonderful to see little kids and adults of varying swimming ability participate and rub shoulders with swimmers the class of Geoff Huegill, my fellow Olympic qualifier,Melissa Gorman and Australian Champions Meagan Nay and Ryan Napoleon just to name a few."

Australian-owned Body Science returns for second year as presenting partner. After the great success of 2010/11 it was an easy decision for Body Science to continue our association with the Series and our common goal of encouraging Australians to be fit and healthy and make the most of our great outdoors said Greg Young of Body Science.

Also joining the partnership family this series is Surf Life Saving Australia, Channel Nine and Cudo.

The Body Science Great Australian Swim Series kicks-off on 25 September at Coolangatta and is being held in conjunction with Australia’s toughest Iron-man race, The Coolangatta Gold.
