Barbara Schumacher is the mother and chief kayaker when her daughter Jen Schumacher attempts channel crossings. She kayaks the entire distance across the Catalina Channel without breaks or complaints. She escorted a 32.3 km tandem relay crossing of the Catalina Channel from Santa Catalina Island to the Southern California mainland on 21-22 September 2019 in 9 hours 54 minutes and numerous other channel swimmers.
