Window
noun - Window (or swim window or swim period) is a period of time that an open water swimmer or relay plans ahead of time in order to start a marathon swim, stage swim, or channel swim attempt. A swim window is typically longer than one day and can be as long as several weeks depending on the body of water and weather conditions. A window is used in order to allow the swimmer to avoid difficult or impossible conditions due to weather or other unexpected phenomena (e.g., lightning, storms, winds, sewage breaks, political upheavals, or legal issues).
Usage[edit]
He set a window of 3 days when planning his swim across the lake. Swimmers decide on a swim window because they cannot accurately predict the weather and water conditions for a marathon swim.
Synonym[edit]
swim window, swim period, weather window, waiting period
