Stroke count

noun - Stroke count (or strokes per minute or SPM) is the number of arm strokes that an open water swimmer takes in 60 seconds. This information is relayed to the swimmer during or after a swim or race as an indication of his pace. The stroke count is given by 2-digit number such as 60 SPM and is usually relayed by the coach on an escort boat to the swimmer by a whiteboard.

Usage

The coach gave the channel swimmer her stroke count every 30 minutes.
