Sandy MacDonald

Alexander “Sandy” MacDonald is an American masters swimmer and open water swimmer for the Sierra Marlins Swim Team Masters as well as the Masters Swim Coordinator for the Gold River Racquet Club in Gold River, California.

Swimming Career

MacDonald began competitive swimming in 1964 at the age of nine and swam and played water polo in high school and junior college, and swam at Stanford University for two years prior to graduation. He participated at USS National Championships from 1976 to 1984, placing 6th in the 100 yard butterfly in 1981 and made the Olympic Trials in 1980. As a masters swimmer, he set world records and national records in pool swimming and won her age group at the 2006 World Masters Championships.


MacDonald coached summer league age group swimming from 1975 - 1982, high school swimming from 1979 - 1982, and high school girls water polo in 1980 as well as an age-group swim coach for a USA Swimming team from 1978 - 1984.
