Rita Kovács is an inductee (Honor Swimmer) in the International Marathon Swimming Hall of Fame and coach of Olympic 10K Marathon Swim gold medalist Éva Risztov at the 2012 London Olympic Games
Rita Kovács (born 29 March 1970 in Nyíregyháza) is a former open water swimmer from Ungheria, Hungary.
Open Water Swimming Highlights[edit]
- She was inducted in the International Marathon Swimming Hall of Fame as an Honor Swimmer in the Class of 2023.
- She represented her home country at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics in the 800m freestyle, finishing in 9:06.97 at the age of 26.
- She competed on the International Marathon Swimming Association and the FINA Grand Prix professional marathon swimming circuits for 11 years over an 18-year period, finishing on the podium for 64% of her 35 races held in 15 different countries.
- She finished 4th in the 1991 FINA World Swimming Championships 25 km marathon swim held in the Swan River in Western Australia at the age of 20.
- She won a bronze medal in the mixed 25 km competition at the 6th FINA World Championships held in the Swan River in Western Australia at the age of 20.
- She won a silver medal in the 25 km race at the 7th FINA World Swimming Championships held in Rome at the age of 24 on 8 September 1994.
- She won a gold medal in the 25 km race at the 1997 LEN European Championships at the age of 27.
- She won a silver medal in the 10 km race at the 2006 LEN European Championships.
- She won a bronze in the 25 km race at the 1991 LEN European Championships in Italy
- She won the 25 km race in Lake Balaton, Hungary in 1991 to qualify for the 1991 FINA World Championships.

- She competed in the 10 km race finishing in 2:02:54.80 at the 2008 FINA World Open Water Swimming Championships in Sevilla, Spain at the age of 38 on 3 May 2008.
- She coached Éva Risztov to compete in the pool and win the Olympic 10K Marathon Swim at the 2012 London Olympics.
