Melanie Claren

Melanie Claren (born 5 December 1992) is an American competitive swimmer from Laguna Niguel, California.

Career Highlights[edit]

  • completed her career ranked among University of California Berkeley’s all-time top 10 in three events – fourth in the 200-yard back (1:51.83), fifth in the 100 back (51.31) and eighth in the 500 free (4:39.25)
  • a two-time team captain for the University of California Bears as a junior and a senior
  • a CSCAA Scholar All-American and honorable mention Pac-12 All-Academic choice in 2014 and HM Pac-12 All-Academic in 2015
  • recipient of the team’s 2014 Coaches Award and the 2015 Coach Wick Leadership Award
  • finished third in the 100 back at the 2015 NCAA Championships with a PR time of 51.31; also took sixth in the 200 back (1:51.83) and 16th in the 500 free (4:42.09)
  • scored in three individual events at the 2015 Pac-12 meet - third in the 100 back (51.90), third in the 200 back (1:52.55) and fifth in the 500 free (4:42.30)
  • at the 2014 NCAA Championships, took 11th in the 500 free (4:39.25), sixth in the 100 back (51.32) and sixth in the 200 back (1:52.44) – all personal bests at the time
  • named to the U.S. squad for the 2015 World University Games in the 200m back
  • member of the 2008-09 U.S. National Junior Team
