Matt Smith is a British winter swimmer who holds the 25m breaststroke International Winter Swimming Association world record set at the 2008 Winter Swimming World Championships in London in 14.78.

Matt Smith is an American open water swimmer, marathon runner and triathlete who was the team captain for 2 NCAA Final Four finishes (1994-4th, 1995-2nd) while at Northern Arizona University. He represented the United States at the ITU World Triathlon Championship in 2015. In 2019 he became the age group National Champion for USATF Long Course. He joined Nick Hobson, Jon Ornée, Dave Ornée, Jeremy Sall, and Todd Suttor to complete a 56.74-mile (91.3 km) mid-lake crossing of Lake Michigan from Two Rivers in the state of Wisconsin to Big Sable Point in the state of Michigan, on 11-12 August 2020 across the fifth largest lake in the world after 20 hours 50 minutes 0.43 seconds. The relay crossing was called the Epic Swim 2020.
