Mark Gorry swam with Carole Laporte, Jim Boucher and Rory Fitzgerald in an unprecedented 50 km crossing between the Isle of Man to the Irish coast on June 2011. The Isle of Man is located in the Irish Sea between the islands of Great Britain and Ireland where the four-person team took to the 10-11°C (50-51.8°F) waters in one-hour segments strictly following the traditional English Channel rules.
He also organizes the annual Scallop Shell Swims, part of the Queenie Festival, that holds the 3 races between 0.5 - 1.6 km that can be swum with or without wetsuits, and the Manx Mile.
He is a member of the Isle of Man Open Water Swimming Club whose members meet regularly for informal swims throughout the year.
