Lucy Hancock

Lucy Hancock of Charlottesville, Virginia was a student Vasser College who swam across the Hellespont in July 1929 together with Eleanor Studley and Eugenie Paterson. She was coached by Carl Michael of Yale University.

Her 1929 swim was the first time women swam across the Hellespont between Europe and Asia in Turkey. Known also as the Dardanelles, this strait is famous for its currents and strong winds.
