Jeju Island

From Openwaterpedia

Jeju province encompasses the South Korean island of Jeju in the Korea Strait. It is known for its beach resorts and volcanic landscape of craters and cavelike lava tubes. Hallasan Mountain, a dormant volcano, features hiking trails, a crater lake at the 1,950m summit and nearby Gwaneumsa Temple. The Geomunoreum Lava Tube System includes 7 km-long Manjanggul Cave, created centuries ago when Hallasan was still active.

Open Water Swimming[edit]

Sherrin Hibbard, an Australian open water swimmer and sailor and diver, completed the first 160 km Jeju Big Swim around Jeju Island off the southern coast of South Korea in a 44-day stage swim between 31 July and 12 September 2010. She was escorted by kayaker Steve Oberhauser.
