Manhattan Island Marathon Swim

24TH ANNUAL MANHATTAN ISLAND MARATHON SWIM CALLED DUE TO SEVERE WEATHER - On 9 July 2005, Jacques Tuset has a commanding lead at the halfway mark of the 24th annual, 28.5 mile Manhattan Island Marathon Swim (MIMS). The National Weather Service had issued a severe weather alert with dangerous lightning, high winds and a strong thunderstorm which forced cancellation of the marathon swim. Five hours into the event, Jacques Tuset is passing under the Henry Hudson Bridge, leaving the Harlem River and entering the favorable currents of the Hudson River. Following in second through fourth places are U.S. swimmers Rebecca Fenson, San Francisco, California, Emily Watts, Potomac, Maryland and David Blanke, Austin, Texas. In fifth place was Igor Meskelis of Sao Paolo, Brazil.

Jacques Tuset, né le 22 décembre 1964 à Lyon, est un nageur français spécialiste de la nage en eau libre et du sauvetage côtier. Il est responsable de la commission eau libre au sein du comité régional de natation en Languedoc-Roussillon de 1996 à 2008. Il est président du club Aqualove Sauvetage (FFSS) sur Montpellier depuis 2006. Représentant de la Channel Swimming Association (CSA) pour la France. Ancien international de natation et membre du Montpellier Agglo. Natation U.C., il a effectué à ce jour plus de 400 traversées à la nage et terminé 4ème des championnats de France du 25km en eau libre (FFN) en 2002, 2ème des championnats de France avec palmes sur 20km (FFESSM) en 2005 et 1er des championnats de France de sauvetage côtier "épreuve de nage -surf race" (FFSS) en 2005.

Son objectif : participer aux marathons et raids à la nage (sans palmes ni combinaison) les plus connus en Europe
