Isle of Islay

The Isle of Islay is the southernmost island of the Inner Hebrides of Scotland. Known as "The Queen of the Hebrides". It lies in Argyll just southwest of Jura and around 40 km (25 miles) north of the Irish coast.

Islay is the fifth-largest Scottish island and the seventh-largest island surrounding Great Britain with a total area of almost 620 square km (239 sq miles).

Open Water Swimming

• The Oa Channel Swim is a 45 km 6-person relay between the Isle of Islay and Ireland in 11°C to 13°C water with an estimated time of 18+ hours for crossing that is organized by Infinity Channel Swimming and Piloting Services. It is part of The Celtic Quadrant, a four-part ocean swimming series in Ireland.
• Pádraig Mallon of Infinity Channel Swimming and Piloting Services will escort Olive Conroy, John McElroy, Ruth McGuigan, Patrick Corcoran, Noel Grimes and Fergil Hesterman on the Celtic Quadrant swim from the Isle of Islay in Scotland to Ireland.

• The Isle of Man Channel Swim, a 70 km 6-person relay between Ireland and the Isle of Man in 11°C to 13°C water at £200 per swimmer with a window between 14–20 June 2017 with an estimated time of 24+ hours for crossing
• The Oa Channel Swim, a 45 km 6-person relay between the Isle of Islay and Ireland
• The Dál Riata Channel Swim, a 17 km (10.5-mile) channel swim between Mull of Kintyre in Scotland to Ballycastle in Northern Ireland.
• The North Irish Channel Swim, a 34.5 km (21.4 miles) between North Ireland and Scotland in 10.5-14°C (50-54ºF) water
