In Search of Memphre (or In Search of Memphré or The Monster Of A Swim or The Search) is a 25-mile (40.2 km) international cross-border marathon swimming event on Lake Memphremagog organized by Phil White of the Northeast Kingdom Open Water Swimming Association.

It is one of the longest marathon swims in the world and is named as one of Canada's Top Open Water Swims and one of America's Top 100 Open Water Swims and is part of the Triple Crown of Lake Monster Swims.

Mission

• To promote a more open border with between American and Canadian neighbors even as we support efforts to deal with terrorist activities • To raise funds to support the continuing operations of the Indoor Recreation Center Orleans County which provides critically needed health & wellness services for people at risk such as those suffering from diabetes, heart disease and cancer • This merry band will set out in search of Memphré, the famed (mythical?) creature of Lake Memphremagog

Order of the Knights Memphre

The Order of the Knights Memphre is a fraternity of open water swimming colleagues that includes all who have joined In Search of Memphre including open water swimmers, escort pilots and crews, and patrol boat pilots and crew, since its inception in 2011. The swimmers who participate are referred to as Swimmer Scouts.

2013 In Search of Memphre

Sarah Thomas completed a two-way crossing of Lake Memphremagog in 30 hours 1 minute and Bethany Bosch completed a one-way crossing of Lake Memphremagog in 17 hours 11 minutes on 7 September 2013.

NEKOKWSA 2014 Schedule

  • June 14th - 6th Son of a Swim, 2, 4, and 6-mile swims
  • July 12th - 6th Kingdom Swim, 1, 3, 6, and 10-mile swims + ¼ mile and 100 yard swims including the WOWSA 10 Mile World Open Water Championship
  • August 2nd - 4th Seymour Swim - 3.5 and 1.75 miles as part of Kingdom Triathlon

August 9th - 17th - 8 Lakes - 43 Miles - 4 Marathons: Swim The Kingdom Week. Swimmers can participate in one event or up to all eight events.

2015 In Search of Memphre

During the 2015 In Search of Memphre, Detective Katie Benoit will attempt a biathlon marathon where she will complete the 25-mile marathon swim across Lake Memphremagog and then run 35 miles back to the start.
