GPS
noun - GPS is an acronym for Global Positioning System; a global system of U.S. navigational satellites developed to provide precise positional and velocity data and global time synchronization for air, sea, and land travel. The technology is used frequently by open water swimming competition organizers and open water swimmers to determine a course or to measure the length of a course or to determine one's precise location.
Usage
The race director calculated the location of the turn buoys on the course by using GPS.
MSF SwimTrack
GPS data obtained from a SPOT tracker can be manipulated and presented in the MSF SwimTrack during a marathon swim.
MSF Tracks
MSF Tracks is a global database of open water swimming GPS tracks developed by Evan Morrison and posted on the Marathon Swimmers Federation website.
