Frances Dean

Frances Dean of Syracuse, U.S.A. (died at the age of 91 on 7 October 2014) was the former secretary of the Catalina Channel Swimming Federation.

For several years in the mid-1990s, Frances served the Catalina Channel Swimming Federation as its secretary. She was a dedicated volunteer and mother to English Channel and Catalina Channel record holder Penny Dean and was on her record-setting 7 hour 40 minute English Channel crossing in 1978 which stood as the fastest time for a woman until 2006.

Just Try One More[edit]

Her daughter's autobiography, Just Try One More, details the relationship between mother and child in the lead-up to Penny Dean becoming one of history's greatest marathon swimmer.
