Honours

Hedderman is an Honour Swimmer in the Hall of Fame – Marathon Swimming Ireland Class of 2022. His Class of 2022 includes Honour Swimmers Elaine Burrows Dillane and Rosie Foley and Honour Contributor Kevin Williams (Administrator) and Honour Contributor Noel Browne (Crew).

He completed his 3,000th lap around Sandycove Island in August 2024.
He completed a certified ice mile in Ireland in 2013 (and again in 2014 and 2015) under the auspices of the International Ice Swimming Association.
- On 13 July 2008, he completed a 13 hour 21 minute crossing of the English Channel from England to France.
Hedderman completed a 12 hour 24 minute crossing of the North Channel on 6 July 2014 from Northern Ireland to Scotland.
On 27 April 2016, he completed a 13.3 km crossing of the Saguaro Lake in the SCAR Swim Challenge in Arizona in 4 hours 36 minutes 23 minutes.
On 28 April 2016, he completed a 14.1 km crossing of the Canyon Lake in the SCAR Swim Challenge in Arizona in 5 hours 17 minutes 1 minutes.
On 29 April 2016, he attempted a crossing of Apache Lake in the SCAR Swim Challenge in Arizona.
On 30 April 2016, he completed a 9 km crossing of the Roosevelt Lake in the SCAR Swim Challenge in Arizona in 4 hours 9 minutes 42 minutes.
He completed a 5 person one-way relay of the English Channel in 2009
He participated in the 2018 Cork Distance Week in Ireland.
On 26-29 April 2022, he competed in the SCAR Swim, a 4-day stage swim in Arizona.
On 8 September 2023, he completed a 32.3 km crossing of the Catalina Channel from Santa Catalina Island to the Palos Verdes Peninsula in Southern California in 15 hours 5 minutes 5 seconds at the age of 38.
He received the 2024 Devil's Island Trophy awarded by the Sandycove Island Swimmers to the best local crew for a marathon swim.

2024: Carol Cashell, Steve Foster, and Finbarr Hedderman for supporting Brian Foster 70 km on a two-way North Channel crossing.

2022: Tim MacNamara, Rob Bohane, and Steven Foster for supporting Brian Foster and Hayley Cullinane 10 km from Garylucas Beach to the Speckled Door around the Old Head.
2021: Alex Jeffers and Bronwyn Jeffers for supporting Colm Walsh 10 km in Galley Head.
2019: Marie Watson, Dave O’Mahony, and Sean Foley for supporting Darren Hennessey 26 km from Sheeps Head to Durrus.
2017: Eoin Lowry and Anne Sheehy for supporting Maeve Mulcahy 20 km from Fastnet to Baltimore.
2016: Ruth Deane and Gavin Murray for supporting Gordon Adair 23.5 km from Inch to Dingle.

The 2013 Global Open Water Swimming Conference was held in Cork, Ireland between 11-13 October 2013. The presenters at the Conference include Professor Tom Doyle, Trevor Woods, Dr. Angel Yanagihara, Dr. Lunt & Dr. Adams, Fergal Somerville, Kevin Murphy, Niek Kloots, Sally Minty-Gravett, and Wayne Soutter. The collective efforts of the committee is nominated for the 2013 World Open Water Swimming Offering of the Year.
