Ernie Hoftyzer is a 46-year-old American open water swimmer from Davis, California who completed the Triple Crown of Open Water Swimming.
Open Water Swimming Career[edit]
- He finished 4th overall in the 2016 SCAR Swim Series (SCAR Swim Challenge) after finishing the 15.2 km Saguaro Lake crossing, 14.4 km Canyon Lake crossing, 27.3 km Apache Lake crossing, and 10 km Roosevelt Lake crossing in 17 hours 9 minutes 7.68 seconds on 9 May 2016.
- he completed a successful crossing of the Catalina Channel in 9 hours 36 minutes on 28 June 2012 with Captain John Pittman on the Outrigger as his escort pilot under the auspices of the Catalina Channel Swimming Federation (#229)
- he completed the 28.5-mile (45.8 km) Manhattan Island Marathon Swim in 8 hours 9 minutes 18 seconds on 14 June 2014
- he finished fifth overall in Stage 2 in Canyon Lake during the 2016 SCAR Challenge in Arizona
- he completed a successful crossing of the English Channel on 26 July 2016 in 11 hours 49 minutes with Captain Fred Mardle
- he successfully swam the 16-mile length of Lake Berryessa in northern California in 7 hours 40 minutes on 23 May 2011
- he crossed Lake Tahoe (22.1 miles) in 12 hours 2 minutes from Camp Richardson in California to Hyatt Beach in Nevada on 19 September 2013
- he participated in and competed all 4 stages of the 41.7 mile (66.9 km) 2016 SCAR Challenge in Arizona
- in 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015 and 2016, he participated in and completed the 10K Lake Del Valle Open Water Swims in northern California
- in 2015, he participated in the California Screamin' Relay with Tina Neill, Forrest Nelson, Kent Nicholas, Emily Evans, and Melodee Nugent when the team swam from Doctor's Cove on Santa Catalina Island around Santa Catalina Island to around Santa Barbara Island to return around the remaining part of Santa Catalina Island to finish at the Isthmus in 51 hours 55 minutes.
