Ellen Shockro
Ellen Shockro is an American open water swimmer, freelance writer, community volunteer at Independent Freelancer, and retired professor from Long Beach, California. As a professor at Pasadena City College for nearly 22 years, she taught U.S. History, China and Japan, Women's History, and Humanities, and led the Oxford Study Abroad program four times. She was formerly a faculty member at Polytechnic School in Pasadena, California and a professor of Secondary Education at California State University Los Angeles.

She received her Ph.D. in Chinese History and Education from the Claremont Graduate School, her masters in Chinese history from the Teachers College of Columbia University.
Open Water Swimming Career[edit]
- She is an age-group winner in the 3 km open water swimming race at the 2013 Pan American Masters Championships in Sarasota, Florida.
- She is a lifetime member of the Santa Barbara Channel Swimming Association.
- She finished second in the 75-79 age group division at the 2017 FINA World Masters Championships 3 km open water swim in Lake Balaton, Hungary in 1:07:26.9 on 10 August 2017.
- She is competing in the 127.8 km Conquering the Beast circumnavigation swim in Flathead Lake, Montana.
