Elina Mäkinen (born 24 December 1994 in Vantaa) is a 28-year-old cold water swimmer, Ironman triathlete and Ice Ironwoman from Helsinki, Finland who swims at Joensuun Jääkarhut.

- She won six golds and a silver medal at the 2016 Big Chill Swim in Windermere, England. Makinen was victorious in the 120m freestyle, 60m freestyle, 40m Ice Fly, 240m, 450m and 1 km endurance swims.
- She participated in a 69.6 km relay with Olive Conroy (Ireland), Conor Turner (Ireland), Anna-Carin Nordin (Sweden), Rory Fitzgerald (Ireland), and Carol Laporte (France) from the Isle of Man to Northern Ireland on 16-18 June 2016 under the direction of Pádraig Mallon of Infinity Channel Swimming and Piloting Services.

Fast and Frozen
She was a member of the Fast and Frozen open water swimming relay that accomplished an unprecedented 2-way North Channel crossing from Ireland to Scotland to Ireland in 29 hours 56 minutes. They left the shore of Ireland on 26 July 2015 at 6:52 am and completed the two-way relay swim at 1:49 pm on 28 July 2015, escorted by Pádraig Mallon's Infinity Channel Swimming. Its members included Henri Kaarma from Estonia, Ryan Stramrood from South Africa, Anna Carin-Nordin from Sweden, Patrick Corcoran from Ireland, Zdenek Thalmika from the Czech Republic, and Elina Makïnen from Finland.

Elina Makïnen was non-stop wherever and whenever she competed in ice swimming competitions. At the Pirita Open in Estonia, in solo races at the Finish Championships, Winter Swimming Championships, or on relays at the World Ice Swimming Championships in Russia, she was both a friendly spirit and a competitive athlete. She completed the 450m endurance swim in a quick 6 minutes 44 seconds and covered 1,100m in 18 minutes. She led off the winning Viimsi Veeklubi relay team with Henri Kaarma, Bruno Nopponen and Andres Olvik and participated in the Fast and Frozen, two-way North Channel relay. For her winter charisma, for her mental strength and ice swimming knowledge, for her silver medal performance in the 1000m race (15:12) and her gold medal in the 450m endurance swim at the World Ice Swimming Championships in Russia, Elina Makïnen is a worthy nominee for the 2015 World Open Water Swimming Woman of the Year.
