Ding

noun, verb - A ding is bodily damage due to unsportsmanlike conduct of another swimmer in an open water race or due to hitting a pier, flotsam, jetty or boat. To be dinged is to get hurt, cut or injured in an open water race.

Origin[edit]

Ding means surfboard damage due to hitting something or someone with one's surfboard.

Usage[edit]

He was all dinged up after swimming in the middle of the scrum during the entire race.
