Derek Turner is a British open water swimmer who completed 3 crossings of the English Channel.

Open Water Swimming Career Highlights[edit]

  • On 1 August 1963, he completed a crossing of the English Channel from France to England in 15 hours 39 minutes.
  • In 1970, he completed a crossing of the English Channel from England to France in 15 hours 40 minutes.
  • On 1 July 1971, he completed a crossing of the English Channel from England to France in 16 hours 12 minutes.
  • He participated in the ice swims held on the first Sunday after the New Year during the 1960s in Lea Dam, Lumbutts, near Hebden Bridge, West Yorkshire, UK.

Derek Turner Trophy[edit]

Turner is the namesake for the Derek Turner Trophy. The Derek Turner Trophy is awarded to the Earliest / Latest Swim (the mid-point is 14 August) by the Channel Swimming Association.
