Dave Parcells (born 15 April 1958 in New Haven and passed away 21 April 2006 at the age of 49) was an American marathon swimmer who was posthumously inducted in the International Marathon Swimming Hall of Fame as an Honor Swimmer in the Class of 2010.

Open Water Swimming Highlights[edit]

  • He completed a [[two-way crossing[[ of the English Channel in 2002 in 21 hours 30 minutes.
  • He won the 2003 Tampa Bay Marathon Swim in 10 hours 24 minutes.
  • He passed away on 21 April 2006 while competing in the Tampa Bay Marathon Swim in Florida.
  • He served as a tireless volunteer and organized the Connecticut Swimming Open Water Championship from 2001-2006.
  • He completed the 1989 Ironman Triathlon in Hawaii.
  • He was the first non-professional swimmer to complete the Long Island Swim crossing.
  • He became the marathon swim director of the St. Vincent's Medical Center Swim Across The Sound, which has raised over US$2 million for cancer.
  • In 1996, he completed the 25 km Swim Across The Sound in Connecticut in 8 hours 17 minutes.
  • On 22 April 1999, he completed the 37 km Tampa Bay Marathon Swim in Florida in 10 hours 4 minutes at the age of 41.
  • In 1999, he completed the 9.7 km Swim Across The Sound in Connecticut in 2 hours 50 minutes 12 seconds.
  • On 22 April 2000, he completed the 37 km Tampa Bay Marathon Swim in Florida in 10 hours 55 minutes 30 seconds at the age of 42.
  • On 17 June 2000, he completed the 45.8 km Manhattan Island Marathon Swim in New York in 8 hours 39 minutes 53 seconds at the age of 42.
  • On 22 August 2000, he completed a crossing of the English Channel from England to France in 12 hours 9 minutes at the age of 42.
  • On 23 April 2001, he completed the 37 km Tampa Bay Marathon Swim in Florida in 12 hours 12 minutes at the age of 43.
  • On 22 April 2002, he completed a 37 km Tampa Bay Marathon Swim in Florida in 9 hours 42 minutes 48 seconds at the age of 44.
  • On 17 August 2002, he completed a two-way crossing of the English Channel from England to France to England in 21 hours 30 minutes (10 hours 12 minutes on the first leg + 11 hours 18 minutes on the second leg) at the age of 44.
  • On 22 April 2003, he completed the 37 km Tampa Bay Marathon Swim in Florida in 10 hours 24 minutes 20 seconds at the age of 45.
  • On 17 April 2004, he completed the 37 km Tampa Bay Marathon Swim in Florida in 9 hours 40 minutes.
  • On 10 July 2004, he completed a 10 km swim inHuntington Bay, in New York in 2 hours 48 minutes 41 seconds at the age of 46.

Dave Parcells MS Fund[edit]

He is the namesake for the annual Dave Parcells MS Fund.

Education[edit]

Parcells graduated from West Haven High School in 1976 and from Providence College in 1980.

Professional Career[edit]

He earned his CPA in 1982 and worked as a Senior Manager with Arthur Andersen, Vice President of Swiss Army Brands, and the Chief Financial Officer of Garrity Industries.
