Dave Horning is an American endurance athlete, open water swimmer and founder of Enviro-Sports, an event management firm that produces the Sharkfest Swim Series.

Sharkfest Swims[edit]

The first Sharkfest Swim was held in San Francisco Bay, the Alcatraz Sharkfest Swim in 1993. The second Sharkfest Swim didn't happen until 2009. But every year since then Enviro-Sports been adding additional point-to-point races to the series with the San Diego Sharkfest Swim event as the National Championship of the series.

  • 21st Annual Alcatraz Sharkfest Swim on 19 May 2013 in Alcatraz/Aquatic Park, San Francisco, California: 1.5 miles in ~60-62°F
  • 3rd Annual Potomac River Sharkfest Swim on 16 June 2013 in Potomac River, King George, California: 3 km in ~72-77°F
  • 4th Annual Lake Tahoe Sharkfest Swim on 25 August 2013 in Lake Tahoe, Incline Village, Nevada: 1.2 miles in ~62-68°F
  • 2nd Annual Boston Sharkfest Swim on 21 September 2013 in Boston Harbor, Boston, Massachusetts: 1.500 km in ~62-66°F

Open Water Swimming Career Highlight[edit]

He won the 1982 circumnavigation swim around Manhattan Island in New York City at the age of 34 in 7 hours 25 minutes 45 seconds.
