Daniel Scott Curtis is an American marathon swimmer of New York, New York who will attempt to complete the Oceans Seven. In addition to completing crossings of the Strait of Gibraltar and the Catalina Channel, he completed The Big Swim, a 34 km marathon swim from New Norfolk Bridge to the Tasman Bridge in Hobart, Australia on 31 January 2015 in over 16 hours and a crossing of the Tsugaru Channel in 2015.
Marathon Swimming Career
- On 22 February 2014, he finished 227th in the 19.7 km Rottnest Channel Swim in Western Australia in 7 hours 43 minutes 5 seconds at the age of 48.
- On 15 April 2014, he completed a 14.4 km crossing of the Strait of Gibraltar from Spain to Morocco in 5 hours 10 minutes at the age of 48
- On 26 August 2014, he finished the 19 km Fehmarn Belt (Beltquerung) between Germany and Denmark in 11 hours 26 minutes at the age of 48.
- On 30 September 2014, he completed a 32.3 km crossing of the Catalina Channel from Santa Catalina Island to Southern California mainland in 12 hours 44 minutes 24 seconds at the age of 48.
- On 31 January 2015, he completed the 39.9 km Derwent River Big Swim from Bridgewater Bridge to Tasman Bridge in 15 hours 47 minutes at the age of 48.
- On 30 March 2015, he completed a 14.4 km crossing of the Strait of Gibraltar from Spain to Morocco in 4 hours 18 minutes at the age of 49.
- On 7 September 2015, he completed a 19.5 km crossing of the Tsugaru Channel on 7 September 2015 in 13 hours 39 minutes with Valerio Valli and Diarmuid Herlihy as coach and support crew with Captain Mizushima as escort pilot.
- In 2015, he finished 17th in the 19 km Jarak-Šabac Marathon Swim in Serbia in 4 hours 32 minutes 30 seconds
- On 29 March 2016, he completed a 14.4 km crossing of the Strait of Gibraltar from Spain to Morocco in 3 hours 57 minutes at the age of 50.
- On 28 March 2017, he completed a 14.4 km crossing of the Strait of Gibraltar from Spain to Morocco in 6 hours 14 minutes at the age of 51.
- On 27 March 2018, he completed a 14.4 km crossing of the Strait of Gibraltar from Spain to Morocco in 6 hours 48 minutes at the age of 52.
