adjective - DNF is an acronym for Did Not Finish or Did Not Fail or Did Not Freestyle. It is a description of a swimmer's result of a race or solo swim with an unspecified reason for not finishing. Alternatively, DNF can mean an open water swimmer who swam butterfly, backstroke or breaststroke, but not freestyle, in an open water swim, marathon swim or channel swim.
