Criterium Race

noun - An open water race where the swimmers exit the water along the race course to run a short distance on shore before diving back into the water to finish. The onshore run, which can occur once or multiple times, can be anywhere along the course which can be a loop course or a point-to-point course.

The criterium race was exciting for the spectators who were able to watch the swimmers run in and out of the water.
