Courtney Weigand


Courtney Weigand is an American pool and open water swimmer who was one of the top finishers in the 10 km race at the Swim Across America Long Beach event held in Long Beach, California on 23 September 2012. She also won the 2013 Scripps Pier-To-Cove Swim in La Jolla Cove, California.
Swim Across America Long Beach
Swim Across America Long Beach is a multi-race charity event with 100m, 800m, 1.5 km, 5 km and 10 km swims held in Marine Stadium, Long Beach, California in September. It is held in conjunction with the annual Global Open Water Swimming Conference and the International Marathon Swimming Hall of Fame induction ceremonies.
It is also a fund-raiser for cancer research conducted at MemorialCare Hospital's Todd Cancer Institute in Long Beach.
Participants
In addition to Weigand and hundreds of swimmers from ages 8 - 71 who swam in the calm 19-21°C (67-70°F) waters under bright skies, swimming luminaries such as world champion Ashley Twichell, the Limbless Waterman Craig Dietz, Olympic medalists Janel Jorgensen, Brian Goodell and John Moffett, 7-time world champion Shelley Taylor-Smith, Channel Swimming Association president Mike Read, the Big River Man Martin Strel, Ocean Recovery Alliance founder Doug Woodring, Waikiki Roughwater Swim president Kaia Hedlund, English Channel swimmers Marcy MacDonald and Liz Fry, Midmar Mile race director Wayne Riddin, FINA TOWSC member Dr. Khwaja Aziz, and several USA Swimming national team members and 2012 London Olympics open water swimming officials, including Ricardo Ratto, also participated.
