Cocos Island

From Openwaterpedia

Various Cocos Islands exist around the world including in Guam, Panama and Costa Rica.

Panama

Cocos Island or Isla de Cocos is an island in Panama in the Pearl Islands.

Costa Rica

Cocos Island (Spanish: Isla del Coco) is an uninhabited island (except for a permanent ranger station) located off the shore of Costa Rica and is one of the National Parks of Costa Rica. It is located in the Pacific Ocean, approximately 550 km (340 mi) from the Pacific shore of Costa Rica. Surrounded by deep waters with counter-currents, Cocos Island is admired by scuba divers for its populations of Hammerhead sharks, rays, dolphins and other large marine species. The extremely wet climate and oceanic character give Cocos an ecological character that is not shared with either the Galapagos Archipelago or any of the other islands (e.g., Malpelo or Coiba) in this region of the world.

Guam

Cocos Island (Chamorro: Islan Dåno) is an island 1 mile (1.6 km) off the southern tip of Guam, located within the Merizo Barrier Reef. The island is uninhabited, 1,600 meters (5,200 ft) long in a southwest-northeast direction, but only between 200 m (660 ft) and 300 m (980 ft) wide, and has an area of 386,303 m2 (95.458 acres). It sits atop the southwestern coral reef rim of Cocos Lagoon. It is the site of the annual Cocos International Crossing that is named as one of the World's Top 100 Island Swims in 2019 by the World Open Water Swimming Association.
