verb - To clear the water refers to the finish by a channel swimmer or marathon swimmer who must complete a swim or crossing on dry land to be officially recognized by a governing body. The swimmer's body including their feet must be entirely out of the water to be judged complete.
Usage[edit]
The Catalina Channel Swimming Federation requires all channel swimmers to clear the water on the opposite shore before their swim is deemed officially complete and successful.
