Cies Islands

The Cíes Islands (Spanish: Islas Cíes) are an archipelago off the coast of Pontevedra in Galicia, in the mouth of the Ría de Vigo. They belong to the parish of San Francisco de Afora, in the municipality of Vigo. They were declared a Nature Reserve in 1980 and are included in the Atlantic Islands of Galicia National Park created in 2002
Open Water Swimming
La Batalla de Rande is a 27 km (16.7 mile) wetsuit and bioprene open water swim held between the Cíes Islands, at the mouth of the Ria de Vigo, and the small island of San Simón island in Galicia in the northwest of Spain. La Batalla de Rande is organized by Loli Paz, Julio Castro, and the Asociación Deportiva Islas Cíes – San Simón.
