The Churchill Award for Courage is an award given to the individual from Jersey for the island's highest award for courage. It was started in 1965 and given by the Bailiff of Jersey.
Open Water Swimming
Open water swimmers Denize Le Pennec (1966), Eric Blakeley, MBE (1997), Wendy Trehiou (2013), and Sally Minty-Gravett, MBE (2017) received the awards.
Origin
The Award was established by an Act of the States for “acts of bravery performed by members of the uniformed services or by members of the public.” In the context of the award, bravery “is deemed to include acts of endurance and perseverance.
