Chip Peterson

Charles 'Chip' Peterson is a 28-year-old world marathon swimming champion, specializing in the 5 km and 10 km distances. He swam from the North Carolina Aquatics Club.
He is a multiple USA Swimming national pool and open water swimming champion, currently training in North Carolina who was one of the top distance swimmers in the history of the University of North Carolina. He won the 1500-meter freestyle at the 2005 USA Swimming National Championships and at the 2007 Pan American Games. In 2010, he was named the 2010 Atlantic Coast Conference Swimming & Diving Scholar-Athlete of the Year and competed in the 2012 and 2016 U.S. Olympic Swimming Trials.

Open Water Swimming Career
- On 20 July 2005, he won the gold medal in the 10 km in 1:46:38.10 at the age of 17 at the 11th FINA World Championships in Montreal, Canada.
- On 17 July 2005, he won the silver medal in the 6 km in 51:18.80 at the age of 17 at the 11th FINA World Championships in Montreal, Canada.
- After winning two world championship medals in 2005, Peterson was awarded the Open Water Swimmer of the Year Award by Swimming World Magazine
- He won a silver medal in the 2007 Pan American Games 10 km marathon swim and several USA Swimming national open water swimming titles
- He won the competitive RCP Tiburon Mile in San Francisco, California in 2016
- He currently holds the course record in the Flowers Sea Swim in the Cayman Islands, winning most recently in the 2016 Flowers Sea Swim
- He won the 2015 grid race at the King and Queen of the Sea in Copacabana Beach, Brazil
- He won the 2016 King and Queen of the Sea competition in Copacabana Beach, Brazil with Christine Jennings
- He won the 2016 Flowers Sea Swim one-mile and 10 km marathon swim races
- He won the 1.8 km New World Cross Harbour Race (新世界維港泳) in Hong Kong on 16 October 2016
- He placed third in the 2016 FINA 10K Marathon Swimming World Cup professional marathon swimming circuit.
- He was inducted in the North Carolina Swimming Hall of Fame, Class of 2018.
