Chicago Skyline Swim

The Chicago Skyline Swim is a coastal swim in Lake Michigan from one end of the city of Chicago to the other.

History[edit]

  • Kevin Murphy pioneered the swim of 27.2 mile (43.7 km), swimming from Evanston, Illinois to Horseshoe Casino in Hammond, Indiana in 23 hours 31 minutes with Ted Erikson on his crew.
  • In July 2008, David Blanke of Austin, Texas (age 48), Chris Layton of Chicago, Illinois (age 49), and Marcia Cleveland of Winnetka, Illinois (age 44) swam 26.2 miles (42.1 km) from one end of the city of Chicago to the other end finishing at Calumet Harbor Beach, swimming from north to south, taking 12 hours 49 minutes.
  • In 2009, Nial Funchion finished the 26.2-mile (42.1 km) Chicago Skyline Swim in 14 hours.
  • Will Dichtel set a record for the 26.2-mile (42.1 km) Chicago Skyline Swim in 12 hours 27 minutes, 50 seconds on 10 August 2020.
