Charlie Houchin
Charlie Houchin is an Olympic gold medalist and member of the SEAL Innovation Team in North Carolina together with Alex Meyer, Olympic marathon swimmer, and Ashley Twichell, professional marathon swimmer. Coached by John Payne, he is a professional swimmer.
At the 2010 Pan Pacific Championships, Houchin placed 5th in the 400m freestyle, becoming the second fastest American in the event for 2010 and also earning a spot as a member of the 2011 FINA World Championships team. In the fall of 2011, Houchin began his final year of preparation for the Olympic Trials competing at the XVI Pan American Games in Guadalajara. Houchin walked away from the Pan American Games a 2-time gold medalist in the 400m freestyle as well as the 4×200m freestyle relay.
At the 2012 London Olympic Games, he earned his first Olympic gold medal as a member of the 4×200m freestyle relay.
At the 2013 FINA World Championships in Barcelona, Houchin split a 1:45.59 as he combined with teammates Conor Dwyer, Ryan Lochte, and Ricky Berens to win gold in the 4×200m freestyle relay.
Seal Innovation Team
The SEAL Innovation Team is a group of professional pool and open water swimmers, formed in partnership with SEAL Innovation, iX3 Sports and the Triangle Aquatic Center with the goal of its athletes competing in the 2016 Rio Olympic Games. The SEAL Innovation Team trains exclusively at the Triangle Aquatic Center in Cary, North Carolina and is coached by John Payne.
