Catherine Sunley

Catherine Sunley (Kate Sunley) is a disabled British open water swimmer and an International Ice Swimming Association official from Stockton-on-Tees, England (above-the-knee amputee since the age of 27).

Open Water Swimming Highlights

  • In 2013, she swam 5 km around Buttermere, after she stopped smoking for 30 years.
  • In 2014, she swam the length of Windermere
  • She completed an Ice Mile on 14 December 2014 in Ellerton lake, Richmond, Great Britain in 4.34°C water and 0.00°C air temperature. She swam 1.03 miles in 39 minutes 36 seconds, the first disabled female swimmer to do so.
  • She was a member of Team Bits Missing, a 5-person disabled channel swimming relay that crossed the 35 km North Channel from Donaghadee in Northern Ireland to Portpatrick, Scotland on 21-22 June 2022 with David Burke of Newry, Northern Ireland, Andrew Smith of Nottinghamshire, England, Mary Clewlow of Cardiff, Wales, and Jonty Warneken of North Yorkshire, England in 15 hours 8 minutes 13 seconds.
