Captain Alfred Brown (or Captain Allan Borran) was a commodore in the American Life Saving Society.
Open Water Swimming Career
- He made the first partial stage swim across the Panama Canal in 1913
- He became the first person to swim from The Battery in lower Manhattan in New York City to Sandy Hook in New Jersey.
- He referred to himself as the long distance champion of the world and assisted Harry Houdini by placing chains and locks on his trunk, and then helping to lower him into one of Manhattan's rivers. He was there as well to rescue Houdini, if he needed it
- He attempted a 10-mile Boston Light Swim course, but did not complete it
