Capraia (Italian: Isola di Capraia) is an Italian island, is the northwesternmost of the seven islands of the Tuscan Archipelago, and the third largest after Elba and Giglio with a population of about 400.

Capraia is 30 km (19 miles) to the island of Corsica, 32 km (20 miles) northwest of the island of Elba, 40 km (25 miles) to the north is the island of Gorgona, and 62 km (39 miles) from the city of Livorno by sea. It is about 8 km (5 miles) long (from Punta della Teglia to Punta dello Zenobio) and about 4 km (2 miles) wide. It has a coastline that is about 30 km (19 miles) in circumference. The island is part of the Arcipelago Toscano National Park and marine sanctuary.

Prison Island

Between 1873 to 1986 a penal colony occupied almost two-thirds of Capraia. In 1986 the government closed the penal colony and opened the island to visitors.
