Honors

Hudson Brothers on the River Eden

They swam with 5 OSS swimmers who joined them on their penultimate and final days. The Hudson Brothers on the River Eden is a two-part wild swim, a 12.5 km swim on 15 August 2015 and a 11 km swim on 16 August 2015 that is part of the OSS Adventure Series (Outdoor Swimming Society Adventure Series). Morgan Gibson is the OSS Adventure Swim Coordinator together with the Outdoor Swimming Society founder Kate Rew.

Swim The Eden

The Swim the Eden Expedition was an unprecedented 3-man 90-mile (145 km) 9-day stage swim by Jack Hudson, Calum Hudson and Robbie Hudson down the length of the River Eden in Cumbria, England where each brother swam the entire length of the river. Their effort is nominated for the 2015 World Open Water Swimming Performance of the Year by the World Open Water Swimming Association.

Hudson Brothers

The Hudson Brothers or the Wild Swimming Brothers include the 24-year-old ROXOA manager Jack Hudson, 26-year-old sales manager and ultra-triathlete Calum Hudson from London, and 29-year-old artist Robbie Hudson ("The Unstoppable Turtle") from Berlin, Germany who do a number of OSS Adventure Series (Outdoor Swimming Society Adventure Series) events including the Hudson Brothers on the River Eden. The three brothers also crossed the world’s third largest whirlpool, the Corryvreckan as part of their training near the iconic Scottish island of Jura in 25 minutes.

Into the Maelstrom

Into the Maelstrom was an open water swimming tandem swim by the Wild Swimming Brothers to swim across the two biggest and most powerful whirlpools in the world, the Moskstraumen and Saltstraumen in Norway. Swirling violently off the Norwegian coast, above the Arctic Circle and on the edge of the Lofoten Islands, these two vast whirlpools have the strongest and fastest tidal currents in the world. The swimming expedition was scheduled for 20-29 August 2016 and serves to raise awareness about oil drilling plans in the Lofoten Islands.

Into the Maelstrom was nominated for the 2016 WOWSA Awards, a recognition of outstanding men, women, performances and offerings around the globe sponsored by the World Open Water Swimming Association in the category of the World Open Water Swimming Performance of the Year.

Saltstraumen Swim

The Saltstraumen swim was a rapid 10-minute sprint across a 0.25 km tidal split with the world's fastest whirlpool, funnelling up to 400,000,000 cubic metres of swirling seawater through a 3 km long and 250-metre wide strait every six hours, with water speeds reaching 22 knots (41 km/h; 25 mph) as they dodged red jellyfish to become the first people to swim across the whirlpool. The margin between success and dreadful failure was less than one minute, with the current suddenly turning a moment after they made it safely into the boat.

Moskstraumen Swim

The Moskstraumen swim was a 2 hour 31 minute 8 km point-to-point interisland crossing between the islands of Vaeroy and Mosken in Norway. They overcame the largest whirlpool in the world, with a central whorl spanning a diameter of some 40–50 meters (130–160 feet) and fierce tides that combine the northerly Norwegian Sea currents and storm-induced flow, resulting in currents of up to 10.7 knots (20 km/h; 12 mph).

2018 World Open Water Swimming Offering of the Year Nomination

Maelstrom Seven was nominated for the 2018 World Open Water Swimming Offering of the Year by the World Open Water Swimming Association:
The Wild Swimming Brothers consistently live up to their name. Non-traditional, out-of-the-box thinkers and doers, the three brothers (Little Brother Jack, Middle Brother Calum, and Big Brother Robbie) do all kinds of wild swimming and have been venturing out to do incredibly risky open water swims in, through and near whirlpools. Similar to marathon swimming’s Oceans Seven and ice swimming’s Ice Sevens, the Hudson Brothers created the Maelstrom Seven. This series of 7 solo swims through, around or near famous whirlpools around the world including Moskstraumen and Saltstraumen in Norway, Corryvreckan in Scotland, Naruto whirlpools in Japan, Te Aumiti in New Zealand, and Old Sow and Skookumchuck in Canada. To date, the brothers have completed swims across the Moskstraumen, Saltstraumen and Corryvreckan and now turn their attention to the Japanese whirlpools of Naruto. For creatively introducing unusual venues to the global open water swimming ecosystem, for developing a new bucket list of swims around the world, and for being such enthusiastic, personable ambassadors of the sport who are developing a unique niche, the Maelstrom Seven by the Wild Swimming Brothers is a worthy nominee for the 2018 World Open Water Swimming Offering of the Year.
